Sulafest is more than just a music and wine festival held annually in the month of February at Sula Vineyards, one of the premier Vineyards in India. The energy, the festival has is good enough to move even the ‘The Great Wall of China’. It gives you a different kick altogether and the entire feeling about being a part of this festival is absolutely different.

A perfect beach holiday at Palolem, Goa

Palolem Beach, located at South Goa will surely keep you stunned with its beauty and serenity. It is truly one of its kind and something you don’t want to miss during your next visit to Goa. With Butterfly Island to the north and the infinite sea to the south, Palolem offers the most beautiful view. Its stillness definitely steals your heart while the lively environment keeps you going. It is just the appropriate blend of the calm and the energy one usually looks for an ideal holiday. You can spend endless days at this beach without getting exhausted of the beauty it offers.

To add to everything, it is one of the few beaches in Goa which offer beach huts. Apart from being really cheap and affordable especially for long durations, they make up for a perfect beach holiday. It’s beautiful to wake up with the sound of the waves hitting the shore. They don’t offer the luxury of a 3 star hotel but, they do give you a chance to experience Goa more closely.

They are available from sometime in October to May; just after and before the onset of monsoons. Most of the huts accommodate two people and are ranged from Rs.800/night to Rs.1500-2000; for the hut which is facing the sea. They have very limited amenities but good enough to suffice your stay. My trip to Palolem Beach and a stay at the beach huts was a memorable one and I am sure to have many more like these.

The ‘Golden Temple’ of South India

The Namdroling Nyingmapa Monastery locally also known as ‘Golden Temple’ is located around 220 kms from Bengaluru, Karnataka.  As soon as I reached the gates of the monastery, I was overwhelmed with joy not only because I struggled for nearly twenty minutes to find my way but also, because of the captivating gates.

As soon as you enter the main temple, you will see three statues made of copper and plated with gold. Inside the statues are scriptures, relics of great beings, small clay mould stupas and small statues. The entire temple including the roofs is painted with beautiful Tibetan paintings and scripts.

I was blessed to see the preparations of the Asalha Puja. As you move around, you will encounter a lot small temples in the Monastery, a beautiful garden right behind the temple and see the monks perform various rituals, meditating, laughing and playing around.

My visit to the monastery was surely a pleasant experience. I was lost in the peace and spirituality of the place. It is truly one of the most colorful temples I have come across and a must see for all the people who plan a trip to Karnataka, South India.

Bask with the Crocodiles

La Vanille, Mauritius is definitely one of the most pictorial nature reserves I have come across, extending to over 3.5 hectares of lush greenery. You actually imagine yourself walking in a tropical rain forest and will discover numerous animal species from the Mascarene Islands.

You will surprise yourself by seeing more than 1500 crocodiles. Yes!! There are more than 1500 Nile crocodiles and more than 500 tortoises. You can see crocodiles and tortoises right when they are tiny miny, good to hold, good to touch beings through the fully grown crocodiles which weigh more than 500 kgs and are very much capable of eating you and me. The tortoises too, are big enough to make us comfortably sit on their protective shells and take us for a ride in the park. You can feed the tortoises grass and watch them relish it.

Apart from that, you can encounter thousands of species of beautifully colored and patterned butterflies, beetles, moths and other insects. As you explore the reserve, you will come across monkeys, wild boar, deer, frogs, turtles, iguanas and colorful geckos and chameleons. Apart from this, there is a shop where you can gift yourself with articles made from farmed crocodile skin, a playground where you can keep the troublemakers busy and a restaurant to satisfy your taste buds with some delicious crocodile meat. Also, don’t miss an opportunity to pose for a picture with a baby crocodile in your hand!!!

Visiting the La Vanille not only perks up your understanding of the various species but, also is a peaceful and close encounter with nature and its beauty.

The rates for adults and child (3-12 years) during the week are Mauritian Rupee 200 and 90, respectively and Mauritian rupee 300 and 165, during the weekend. For more details, you can visit their website: www.lavanille-reserve.com and e-mail them at crocpark@internet.mu.
